About Mrs. Durst

I grew up in Canton Missouri and graduated from Canton R-V in 2006. During high school, I was active in Varsity Basketball, Yearbook, 4-H, and Church Youth Group. After graduation, I attended State Fair Community College and earned by AA in General Agriculture. I then attended the University of Missouri- Columbia and earned my Bachelor's in Agriculture Education and graduated in 2010 and began teaching in the Fall of 2010 Canton. In the year 2014, I finished my Master's Program in Agriculture Education.  I truly enjoy teaching and find being able to share my passion for agriculture truly rewarding.

I grew up on a small row crop and livestock farm outside of Canton. My dad and grandpa still farm together today and I am able to help when possible. I enjoy most of all helping with the cattle and driving the tractors, especially during spring planting and summer hay production. I feel so blessed to have been able to grow up as a farm kid. I know how important agriculture is in Missouri and want to do everything I can to preserve the ability of farmers to make their own decisions about their operations for generations to come.

As a teacher, I believe it is important to be involved in Professional Organizations. I am the Past President of our District and Area MVATA teacher's Association. I am also the Past President of our statewide Curriculum and Resources Committee. I serve on the Lewis County Show-board Committee, and Lewis County Farm Bureau Board, and am a member of the Lewis-Marion County Cattlemen's Association.

The Canton Agriculture Education Department is part of a unique group of schools with CASE certification. CASE is a Curriculum for Agriculture Science Education. With less than 2% of the population involved in production agriculture, it is important to prepare students for Science, Technology, Math, and Engineering (STEM) careers in agriculture. In order to receive the CASE certification teachers must attend a 2-week training on the curriculum. I am currently certified in Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources (AFNR), Principles of Plant Science, and Principles of Animal Science. I have found the CASE curriculum to be very beneficial to my curriculum. It allows me to teach students science and math through agriculture.
